Xi'an is somehow cool! I suspect it's the Muslim quarter and its emanations. That, and the sight of a Chinese inner city with curly traditional rooves on otherwise normal concrete blocks. Couldn't help noticing that the Muslim quarter was closely bordered on at least three sides by the provincial police HQ, city government, city police HQ etc. Clearly these institutions are drawn by the food!
